All About Wall Art

In recent years, wall art has become a popular trend in home décor and on social media. Are you considering putting up some wall art in your home, living room, or bedroom? Here is all you need to know about wall art.

What to Consider when Choosing Wall Art

When choosing an image, artwork, or whatever medium you wish for your wall art, it is important to choose art that gives you a happy feeling.  Wall art is one the simplest ways you can express yourself through your living space or a certain room.  Be creative and let your personality shine through.

Try using more than one medium of art.  Art comes in many different forms and many artists will create wall art that incorporates different medium (ex: charcoal used with acrylic poant)

Always Consider the Room for the Wall Art

Wall art has a way of really bringing a room together.  So when you choose your wall art décor, consider some guidelines:

Do you want the room to blend or pop?

What colors does the room already have?

How can you further highlight those colors?

What mood are you trying to create in the space?

Make sure to keep everything in proportion

Framing

A frame is a very important thing to consider for your wall art. You don’t want your beautiful piece to deteriorate over time, not to mention, a nice frame can really elevate the wall art.  But do you go with glass or plexiglass?

Glass framed wall art may be viewed as fragile, since glass can be shattered easily.  However, there are a few pros when going with glass framed wall art.  Some of the positive features from glass framed wall art include:

Glass framed wall art has provided the most clear, uninhibited viewing of the artwork.

    UV-filtering options are easily attainable.

Not as easy to scratch as plexiglass

Doesn’t wear down over time and damage the art

   Gives a sophisticated, luxury look

The drawbacks to glass are that it is easily shattered and heavy. Plexiglass shares many of the same pros, but it won’t look as luxurious and it may fade over time.  It may have to come down to personal preference and appearance since they are quite similar.

A recent study conducted by Buildworld found that photography, landscapes, abstracts, posters, and portraits were among the top choices for wall art in the home.  All of these mediums provide endless possibilities for ways to show off your creativity with wall art.  There are many other options for wall art out there as well.
