The fact is, there are a lot of us who have tried and true items that we like to use in the kitchen. But there are others that we have no idea about! Here’s a quick look at the kitchen items you may want to have on hand for food prep and cleaning.

1. Adjustable Rolling Pins

Cooking is an exact science, and there are all sorts of measurements that you’re going to have to take in order to make things happen properly. Sometimes, you need a ruler so that you can ensure that you’re making the right sized pie or cookies.

An adjustable rolling pin doesn’t only allow you to ensure that your rolling pin is always the right size! Many rolling pins have rulers built into them, so you can measure whatever you need to measure and make sure that the dimensions are correct in just a few seconds.

2. Finger Guard

Both amateur and professional cooks and chefs have accidents sometimes. Knives are dangerous to work with, and you may be worried about whether or not your fingers will get through prep intact.

A finger guard is an awesome tool that you want to add to your kitchen. This chunk of metal fits onto your finger like a ring, and then protects your fingers. You can slice and dice without fear when you have one of these!

3. Cheesecloth

Many people falsely believe that cheesecloth is only for cheese making. While that was its originally purpose, it can also be used for yogurt, herb bundles, tofu and ghee creation, and stock and custard making.

Cheesecloth is available in a number of grades ranging from loose to extra-fine weave. You can get several types of cheesecloth in order to ensure that you always have the right options for your needs.

4. Self-heating Knife

One of the most frustrating things to try and deal with in regards to food prep is if your butter, cream cheese, or other spreadable item isn’t spreading as well as it’s supposed to. Maybe you took it out of the fridge too late, or it’s chilly in your house.

A self-heating knife is a newer invention that helps to eliminate that issue with ease. It warms up your butter or other spreadable food within a couple of minutes so that you can easily spread it.

5. Meat Shredders

Do you live in a home where barbecue is regularly consumed? Or do you often shred foods for use in whatever recipe you’ve put together? Then handheld meat shredders need to be in your kitchen.

Sure, you can do it with your hands, but that can make a mess and doesn’t always get you the fine shred that you want for your food prep. These help to keep things cleaner and shred foods more finely.

6. Spouts and Strainers for Bowls and Pots

We’ve all been in a situation where we’re trying to pour or strain from a pot, pan, or bowl, and we end up losing a quarter of the food that you’re trying to work with. That’s why spouts and strainers that attach to bowls and pots make life so much easier!

7. Citrus Juice Sprayer

Gone are the days where your hands get all sticky when you’re trying to work with citrus. This lovely little gadget makes it really simple to get citrus juice or spray on anything of your choosing.

It looks like the top of your typical squirt bottle. All you need to do is stick it into the fruit you’re using, and pump it!

8. Special Shaped Ice Cube Trays

Nowadays, ice cube trays come in every shape and style, and this makes it a lot more fun to use them. You can get something simple, like an ice cube tray that makes long, thin ice cubes for water bottles. Or, you can get fun shapes so that you can make icy snacks for your kids, pets, or other family members. Get silicone trays so that they’re easier to use.

Look at what you can find and just shop around. There are so many fun tools to choose from that you are certain to find the things that you need and that will make the process easier for you in the long run. See what you can learn and find – it’s well worth the effort.
