DeWALT DWS779 miter saw vs DWS780

 DeWalt 780 (opposite)

Key factors in choosing a miter saw is durability, reliability, safety, accuracy and of course price. Always consider your personal safety too, by wearing goggles, thick gloves, and ear defenders to guard against the high level of noise.

Although the DeWALT DWS779 has been superseded, it’s still existing and remains very popular. However, DWS780 is much more common because of its unique XPS laser system.  You can still buy the older DW779 saw which is certain to be around for a long time to come.

After reading this dewalt 779 vs 780 review, you’ll see that both are practically identical.

However, the extra feature on the DWS780 is the cutline LED work light which is DeWalt’s alternative to a laser cut marking mechanism. The ultra bright LED displays a shadow as a marker indicating where the blade will cut.

Other than this, every function and feature of the two miter saws is exactly the same and even both instruction manuals are identical.

In contrast to the less expensive DeWalt 779 model (shown opposite) the DWS780 is also a sliding compound miter saw with a 12 inch cutting blade. Being lightweight and compact in design makes it ideal for moving around the work site or manoeuvring to different jobs.  As a versatile heavy duty saw, it can cut through very heavy jobs.

The saw is light and portable and ideal for workers who need to cut various metals and timbers as well as work in more confined spaces. For a general builder this is a perfect tool that would be handy on most jobs, without having to revert to other tools.

The DWS780 has a high powered 15 amp motor that is capable of generating up to 3,800 RPM and delivers both extended durability and power. The miter saw has an XPS integrated positioning system that provides an adjustment free cutting line indicator for precise cross cuts.

The quick release setting for bevel stops gives the operator greater accuracy when making bevel cuts and changing the angles of the bevel (up to 49 degrees both left and right) quickly and easily. It comes with a long double slide fence that provides maximum support when working with larger work pieces at a variety of different angles.

 So which do you buy?

With these two DeWalt miter saws being virtually identical, most agree the DSW779 is a clear winner; however, this is due to the fact that the DWS779 is the cheaper of the two miter saws.  Although the DWS780 does come with the cutline LED work light, which is a useful feature, many agree that it doesn’t warrant the difference in price between the two miter saws.

Essentially the DSW779 has all the power you would ever need for most jobs on a worksite or in the home. All accessories are immediately available online or at your nearest tools outlet.

Therefore, with all these considerations the DeWalt DSW779 is probably the worthy winner purchase over the DeWalt DSW780.
