For the last few months, Interviewer has been working to bring fresh new content for you all to enjoy. We mostly discuss, give reviews, and write informational articles about recliners on this blog; however, for a change, we decided to introduce to you all the founder of Interviewer, Karen Miller. Karen Miller is an interior and architectural designer who loves what she does. In a series of interviews, we will dive deeper into Karen’s personal, professional, and work life. In this interview, we will ask Karen more about her background, what inspired her to become an interior designer and her personal preferences regarding design. Stay tuned to read more interesting interviews and also send in any questions you might have in store for Karen!
Interviewer: Hello Karen! We wholeheartedly welcome you here at Interviewer and are absolutely thrilled to have you and speak with you. How are you feeling today?
Karen: Oh, I feel wonderful! Thank you so much for having me and for such a warm welcome. I am more than excited to be present here and can not wait to answer the questions you have in store for me.
Interviewer: So Karen, most readers here know you as the founder of ReclinerAdvice, where you explain in detail the types of recliners people should opt for their living rooms, the advantages of each type, and reviews of many famous recliner brands. We want people to know you beyond that. Karen, could you share with us how you got into interior designing in the first place?
Karen: I am glad you asked. I want people to know me beyond recliners, too (chuckles). I think living spaces should be warm and cozy. It has always been my goal to make even the most unassuming space appear stunning. Living in a place that you find beautiful, welcoming, and aesthetically pleasant makes you want to stay there longer and promotes relaxation. I think these ideas kept growing on me, and eventually, I knew this was what I wanted to do for a living.
Interviewer: Oh, the joy of doing something you love and earning a living through it is outstanding! We love how passionate you sound about your work. Do you think it is important to choose something you enjoy doing? Or do you think one should choose a field based on how much money it will offer them in the future?
Karen: People often ask me this, and I believe there is no right or wrong answer to the question. Obviously, earning a living is important, especially if you have a family to support. However, when you love doing something, you put your heart and soul into it. Despite all the failures one might face after choosing a field they love, they will not give up on it and eventually come out on top. Being stuck at a job that makes you a lot of money but you have to force yourself every day will take a toll on your mental health. And if you can find something you love and make a lot of money, it’s a win-win situation, right?
Interviewer: Very well said, Karen! People should go after what they are passionate about, and they will find opportunities one way or another. So Karen, what did you do when you found out how much you loved the idea of creating stunning spaces for people?
Karen: I wanted to put my creativity out there as soon as possible. All these ideas popped up in my head when I saw an ordinary space. I would tell myself how it would look so much better if the table were a different shape, the sofa was a different color, or the indoor plants were placed in a different spot. It took some time, but I eventually started my own interior designing business.
Interviewer: That is honestly so impressive! So, tell us a bit more about your business. How is it coming along?
Karen: I’ve been doing interior design for almost twenty years, and in the last several years, my company has expanded so much that I can hardly keep up with the daily influx of requests. It only goes to show that when you are passionate about what you do, you become great at it, and people admire the work you do for them. I take great pride in the fact that my work constantly revolves around making places for people. After all these years, I have come to the conclusion that we never feel quite as authentically ourselves as we do when relaxing at home.
Interviewer: I believe at this point, it makes sense to ask you what really inspired you to start a blog dedicated to recliners when you could have picked any aspect of interior designing to write about.
Karen: That is a great question. I believe most people find recliners the most complicated pieces of furniture to shop for. Although there is a lot of information on the internet regarding different types of recliners, most people forget the space and design aspects of their living rooms when buying a recliner. I wanted to focus on educating people about recliners that will provide functionality as well as look great in their living spaces.
Interviewer: Recliners are indeed one of the most difficult pieces of furniture to shop for! So, Karen, what kind of content do you share on the blog apart from information about recliners?
Karen: Some might think that only writing about recliners on a blog would be boring, and there would be a lack of content, but they would be wrong. There is so much about recliners people do not know. They buy expensive recliners but a few years down the line find that the recliners look nothing like they did when they were newly bought. On the blog, I aim to guide people about the kind of recliners that would best suit their needs, how to maintain them, repair any faulty parts, and provide in-depth reviews on famous recliner brands.
Interviewer: So the blog is a one-stop solution for anyone looking to buy recliners and understand how to look after them. Thank you so much, Karen, for taking out the time to speak to us about your passion and walk us through your blog. You are making it a lot easier for people to understand that turning your space into a beautiful home does not require expensive furniture, but small touches that spice up the place make it visually pleasing to look at. If you guys have been on a hunt for the perfect recliner, you all know where to go. Send in any questions you want us to ask Karen, and we might include them in our next interview!
